E-mail: contact@inflectionzurich.ch Website: inflectionzurich.ch
Executive Board: Joshua (Co-founder), Lyn (Co-founder), Luis (Executive Board Member)
Independence: INFLECTION Zurich is an independent student association. It is run by students of ETH Zurich but is not an organisational unit of ETH Zurich and is not affiliated with it.
Liability: We compile the content of this website with care but cannot guarantee that it is accurate, complete or up to date. Event dates, venues and speakers may change at short notice.
External links: This website links to third-party websites, such as our ticket shop on pretix.eu, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Instagram and our partners. We have no influence on their content or their handling of personal data; their operators are responsible for them.
INFLECTION Zurich, an association under Swiss law with its seat in Zurich, is responsible for the processing described here. For all data protection matters, write to contact@inflectionzurich.ch.
No cookies, no tracking. We do not set cookies for visitors and do not use analytics, tracking pixels or profiling tools. Fonts, images and scripts are all loaded from our own server; your browser does not connect to any third party while you browse our site.
Server logs. When you open a page or one of our short links (e.g. go.inflectionzurich.ch), our web server automatically records your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the referring page and your browser’s identification string. We use these logs only to operate the website securely and to detect and fix errors and attacks. They are deleted after 14 days.
Hosting. Our website, our short links and our e-mail run on a server rented from Hostinger, an EU-based hosting company, located in Germany.
Team login. Our team members log in to an internal admin area, which uses one technically necessary session cookie. This does not affect visitors.
If you e-mail us, we use your e-mail address and the content of your message to answer you. We delete correspondence when it is no longer needed, at the latest two years after the matter is closed.
The “Sign-up” button takes you to our ticket shop on pretix.eu. pretix is operated by pretix GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany, which processes your data on our behalf and according to our instructions under a data processing agreement. pretix stores the data on servers in Germany. pretix also sets the cookies its shop needs to work; see pretix’s privacy policy.
What we collect: your name, your e-mail address, optionally your phone number, your answers to any event-specific questions (see 2.5), your confirmation that you have read our photo notice (see 2.6), and order details (order number, time of sign-up, whether you were admitted, and check-in at the event).
Why: to process your sign-up, decide who gets a place where places are limited, send you information about the event, reach you at short notice (phone, if you give it), and check you in at the entrance.
Who sees it: our team members who organise the event, and pretix as our processor. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
How long: we delete your sign-up data no later than six months after the event. We keep anonymous statistics (e.g. number of sign-ups, no-show rates) longer; they do not identify anyone.
For some events we ask a question as part of the sign-up, for example “What would you ask the speaker?”. We use your answer to decide who gets a place.
If you agree in the sign-up form, we may also pass your answer to the event’s speaker(s) to help them prepare. We pass on only the text of the answers, word for word and in random order, without your name, e-mail address or any other details from your sign-up. If your answer itself mentions things about you (for example your project, employer or research group), the speaker may be able to tell that it is yours, so leave out such details if you don’t want to be recognised. Some speakers are based outside Switzerland and the EU, in countries that may not have equivalent data protection laws; we share answers with them only if you agreed. We ask speakers to use the questions only to prepare their talk and not to pass them on.
Your answers are deleted together with your sign-up data (see 2.4).
Our team takes photos at our events to document them and to present our association. We photograph groups and the event setting; we do not take portrait photos of individual attendees. You may still be recognisable in some photos.
We may publish these photos after the event:
LinkedIn, Instagram and WhatsApp are operated by US companies (LinkedIn/Microsoft, Meta), which process published content under their own privacy policies and may store it in the USA.
How to prevent publication: we publish photos only after the event has ended. Tell any team member at the event that you do not want to appear, and we will not publish photos in which you can be recognised. You can also write to contact@inflectionzurich.ch at any time afterwards; we then remove photos of you from our website and our own posts within seven days.
What we cannot undo: photos on our website can be downloaded, and social media posts can be shared or saved by others. We cannot remove copies made by third parties.
Legal basis: we publish photos because we have a legitimate interest in documenting and presenting our events. We take your interests into account by telling you in advance, photographing groups rather than individuals, publishing only after the event, not naming people in photos without their agreement, and respecting every objection.
When you sign up, we ask you to confirm that you have read this notice.
On event pages we publish the names, roles, organisations, short bios and, if provided, portrait photos of our speakers, and after the event, with the speaker’s permission, their slides. This information stays on the page of the past event as part of our event archive. Speakers can ask us at any time to remove it.
You can join our WhatsApp Community via a link on our website. WhatsApp is operated by WhatsApp Ireland Ltd. and Meta Platforms, Inc. (USA), which process your data under their own privacy policy and may transfer it to the USA. As administrators, we can see the phone numbers and profile names of all members. We use them only to run the community. You can leave the community at any time.
We run accounts on LinkedIn and Instagram. When you visit or interact with them, the platform operator processes your data under its own privacy policy, generally also in the USA. For the statistics these platforms show us about our pages, we may be jointly responsible with the operator; their terms on joint responsibility apply.
